Saadani
Located approximately 100 km North West of Dar es Salaam, Saadani National Park is the place where the beach meets the bush. The park is famous as being the only park with Indian Ocean beachfront.
Saadani National Park is placed in the historic triangle of Bagamoyo, Pangani and Zanzibar.
The park covers an area of 1100 km square and the vast ecosystem of the park got the recognition in 2005.
Once, Saadani village was an important place for slave-trading centre in East Africa. Now it becomes a small village with less number of inhabitants with fishing the main source of income.
The place is a perfect place for visitors who wish to discover the beautiful wonders of the sea. The vast sea bordering romantic palm trees, shining white sandy beaches and spectacular views of the blue waters are the sights to behold.
It’s one of the places where relaxing hours of sunbathing with the wild view of elephants wandering or animals coming to drink water at the nearby water source.
The park offers a boat ride from the island of Zanzibar.
Saadani is the best choice for those who want island relaxation and safari excitement. The park harbours high concentration with a wide variety of wild animals and primates.
Commonly seen animals are elephant, warthog, giraffe, buffalo, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, wildebeest, common waterbuck, reedbuck, yellow baboon and vervet monkey. Lions and other predators are present but are very rare.
The park is also famous for being home to the breeding site of green turtles. During boat trips on the Wami River visitors can encounter some of the hippos, crocodiles and a selection of water birds.
