Tanzania continues to shine globally after winning a major global award in the safari tourism category for the second consecutive year, earning recognition as the world's best country for safari tourism. This victory further cements Tanzania's position on the global map as one of the most unique and attractive tourism destinations.
The award, considered one of the most prestigious in the tourism sector, has been described as a result of the Tanzanian government's efforts to protect national resources, strengthen conservation, and promote tourism attractions. Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her major contribution to the growth of tourism, highlighting Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania films as key tools that have helped promote the country.
Dr Abbasi announced that Tanzania will host next year's global tourism awards, bringing major tourism organisations and stakeholders from around the world to the country. The tourism sector has grown rapidly since the decline of the COVID-19 pandemic, with tourist numbers increasing from 600,000 to over 2.1 million last year.
The Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Ephraim Mafuru, noted that Serengeti National Park was named the World's Best National Park. He emphasized that the achievements reflect significant work done in improving tourism infrastructure, including road construction within protected areas and conservation of game reserves.
